We're getting a little OT here. I'm running on Windows and switched form
The Bat! to Thunderbird for a few reasons:
– I prefer open source software. The Bat! is quite expensive.
– I was worried about portability and safety of my mail. The Bat! uses
its own format for mail archives. I was unable to recover mail from
archive made with an older version and had to use an external tool!
– I needed to sync my contacts etc., which is quite limited due to the
closed source nature of The Bat!. I could not get LDAP address book to
work, for example.
– The Bat! didn't handle IMAP folders properly, which became an issue
since I switched to Gmail and Google Apps.
All the above is better handled in Thunderbird. However, Tbird is very
immature in terms of functionality when compared to TB!. This includes:
– Viewing, sorting and managing messages.
– Keyboard friendliness.
– Filtering mail — TB! allows any kind of filtering for incoming,
outgoing, sent, read mail with a very complex and efficient action system.
– Macros for automated handling of messages — you can do almost
everything with the message: modify headers and content, copy/move,
readdress, forward, reply, do regex on content etc.
– all out-of-the-box.
I really hate the Tbird plugin hell. I do appreciate it's extensible
(while TB! is not, at least not to this extent) but this should not be
required for basic functionality.
Enough of this OT. I'll handle the reply-to somehow. No problem for me.
