masqmail hangs when checking for pop3

Hi
I'm running ubuntu 10.04 netbook and trying to make masqmail play nice with
gmail, everything appears to work but when trying to retrieve pop3 mail it
seems to hang, with no error message. Where do I get started on
troubleshooting this?
